In the BBC TV adaptation of Poldark
Plot
It follows Rupert Campbell-Black and Tony Baddingham as their long-running rivalry comes to an end. Coincidentally, Aidan Turner had previously filmed at Chavenage House (a rival monastery). The same filming location was also used to portray Trenwith House in 2015.
There was a terrible version of Jilly Cooper’s Horsemen in the 1990s, and TV has shunned her ever since ' bonkbusters' critics found Jilly Cooper’s novels dated and silly
Far from the truth Cooper pokes fun at the upper middle classes of the Cotswolds with an iron wit and has always understood comedy, character and entertaining subplots. In many ways, her work was more akin to the sitcom Restoration than Carry On, and the characters have more development and inner lives than one might expect. Now comes RIVALS from Disney with a great cast, and the good news is this: it’s a great watch, and yes, it’s full of mischievous moments and shenanigans, even Willy at times.
created by Cooper, part villain, part Adonis, part whine child
But her triumph is that she has the budget and time to realize the meaning and spirit of the original book. The changes are minor and actually open up the period and politics more. Bella Maclean is great as Tagie, and Alex Hassel is great as Rupert, which is impossible to do because no one in the story can be a character.
a true Disney triumph
He does a really creditable job. But the real star is the ensemble of excellent actors Emily Atack, Danny Dyer, Katherine Parkinson, who turn in career-best performances. It’s fun, it’s bubbly, but there’s a deeper undercurrent that elevates it above a standout movie and gives us hope that we’ll see a lot more from this team and this universe in the future.
I liked it a lot
